ELECTROLESS NICKEL BORON COATING

BEMATEK’s Nickel Boron coating, known as Bor-B, is
specifically developed for the firearms and defense
industry. Our Nickel Boron has high hardness and wear
resistance, thus coated parts exhibit more service life
and require less maintenance. The coating greatly improves
heat dissipation so treated products run cooler
than non-treated and conventional coated parts.
Bor-B offers the protective properties of hard chrome,
but is non-toxic and eco-friendly than hard chrome. It
is also possible to increase the hardness and adhesion
strength of the Electroless Boron coating through
heat treatment. Due to its hardness, Bor-B can
provide better wear resistance than chromium. It also
provides greater corrosion protection than chrome,
thus extending the life of the finished product.
Unlike conventional electrolytic plating, which
requires electric current to be introduced into the
plating bath, the electroless process relies on an autocatalytic
reaction to coat the workpiece. Electroless
nickel-phosphorus (Ni-P) plating, which is a common
finishing technique for many types of metals and
alloys. Electroless Boron coating provides greater wear
resistance than Ni-P.
The electroless coating process also offers several
advantages over electrolytic coating. Due to the homogeneity
of the coating, it is also easier to obtain the
desired coating thickness at every point. Thus, electroless
coating is more suitable for parts with complex
shapes or many recessed areas on the surface.
Thanks to the special surface topography on the Bor-B
surface, it provides long-term effective lubrication.
